hi,
at one of our customers we had a nasty problem with the fax server wich
was as follows.
(the affected system was a Windows 2000 SBS with all updates working as
mailserver, fileserver, printserver and faxserver in a small workgroup.)
E-mail notifications failed for incoming and outgoing faxes. In the
faxconsole "Routing Failed" was displayed for the failed notification.
Event IDs 32083, 32085 and 32089 showed up in the event protocol.
we installed a third party fax server software as workaround after
spending about 10 hours of work on the problem. but even notifications
from that software failed. now that we knew that the error was not
related to the fax server itself, we found out, that McAfee VirusScan
Enterprise 8.0.0 caused the problem.
there is a setting turned on by default which prevents local delivery of
e-mails. in the german version the setting can be adjusted in the mcafee
console in "Zugriffsschutz" (possibly "accessprotection"? there is a
traficlight icon next to it). you need to deactivate the rule for
"Senden von E-Mails durch Massenmail-Wuermer verhindern" (possibly
"Prevent e-mails from massmailer-worms to be delivered.").
the fax server did its job again after we did that adjustment.
