Routing between two networks

I have a LAN partitioned in two segments:

- 10.1.40.x / Mask 255.255.255.0
- 192.168.0.x / Mask 255.255.255.0

I want computers in 10.1.40.x subnetwork to access the other segment. I have
a Windows 2000 Advanced server (10.1.40.2) that can act as a router.

- How do I configure this server for routing packets?
- Should computers in 10.1.40.x have 10.1.40.2 as default gateway?
- What other settings do I have to make?

Thanks!

Does either subnet have a connection to another subnet or to the
Internet?

If there are no other connections, the setup is simple. You give the
server an interface in each subnet then enable routing on the server. The
best way to do that is to enable RRAS and configure it as a LAN router. Set
the default gateway of each subnet to be the RRAS router. eg

192.168.0.x dg 192.168.0.1
|
192.168.0.1 dg blank
RRAS
10.1.40.2 dg blank
|
10.1.40.x dg 10.1.40.2

If either segment has an Internet connection you will need extra routing
because the default route will not be to the RRAS server.
