Routing and Remote Access Service does not start

I'm sure this has been posted before, but my searches have yielded nothing. I've just restored my server from backup, everything has gone well so far; except for my Routing and Remote Access Service. All the dependencies are running, but when I try to start the service I get the following error:

"Could not start the Routing and Remote Access service on Local Computer.
The service did not return an error. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error.
If the problem persists, contact your systems administrator."

This server is the ISA and Exchange server (Yes, I will be migrating Exchange off the server when I get it back up); so it's imparitive I get it up ASAP.

Thank you,
David

I have spent all day fighting the same problem. The only
solutions I have come across are these:1. Make sure the
SYSTEM acct has full permissions on the c:\winnt\temp
folder and 2.Make sure the .mdb files in c:\winnt\ias are
good. I tried both and neither helped. The only thing I
changed was to install the Automatic Updates and reboot
the server. I hope someone has some ideas.

Thanks!!
Jason

Thanks Jason, neither one worked for me either. I've never come across anything like this in over 10 years of working with MS servers.

i had this same thing happen. Make sure the "Remote
registry service" is started.
