What kind of router should I get? My brother said for $40.00 the
DLink DI-604 is the best we can get, and if we get Linksys or Netgear,
they will be laggier and this is better. I don’t think it’d make much
of a difference, do you guys?

Linksys. If your needs are for NAT, then the BEFSR-41 is one of the
most widely-supported units available. FWIW, Cisco bought Linksys.

Since wifi routers have all the functionality of non-wifi,
plus the wifi ability should you every need it in the future
- at around the same prices, you might as well just get a
wifi capable router. If you presently don't need the wifi
support just disable it. Unless you need particular
features beyond typical routing, just about any will do the
job. There is no significant speed/lag difference for any
of them in a (relatively light) home use scenario. IMO, the
one brand I'd avoid is Belkin as they seen cheaply made
compared to most name-brands.

I've found the dlinks to be good but unreliable, I've sent quite a few of
them back for RA. I'd say out of 10 I've sent 5 back.

What is a switch? Is it where you can have other computers connected,
but not able to get on the internet at the same time? You have to
switch from the one that is online to the other one that you want to
be online, IE, you can only have one online.. I’m just taking a guess,
but this is what brought the question up.
