When I hook up my computer directly into the network, the internet works
fine, however when I connect through the router (NETGEAR WGT624 v3) I cannot
access the internet. My Network Places says that there is a connection, and
every laptop that we have tried can see the network, but access is denied
when I open any web browser. (Mozilla, IE, Chrome). I know my setup is right
.... software problem maybe???

Thanks for the help!

How do you *know* your "setup is right"?

What do you mean connected "directly into the network"? Are you talking
about connecting to some corporate LAN? What "network" are you "seeing"
on every laptop you've tried?

How are you connecting through the router -- wired or wireless? And what
happens if you connect to the router via wire?

How did you connect the router to "the network"?

Directly into the network meaning an ethernet hookup from my cable box
directly into the back of my computer. The way I want to connect is through
the router, meaning from the cable modem to the router, and then from the
router to the computer ... when I try this, I can see the network, but cannot
connect to any websites. The network that I am seeing on the laptops
(wireless) is the same one that I set up through the main computer mentioned
earlier. I have set it up this way before but for some reason it is not
working anymore. Again, when I connect the computer directly to the modem, it
works.

hope this clarifies things.

It sounds as if you have not configured the WAN/Internet side of your
router correctly.

Or that your cable modem will not recognize your router because it is
expecting to be connected to the MAC address of the computer originally
connected to the cable box. Sometimes this can be fixed by power cycling
the cable modem. Or you can see if your router permits you to clone the
MAC address of the computer (most do).

Start -- Run: --> CMD --> ipconifg /all | more --> Look for "Physical
Address" and copy the 6 "groups" (ex: 00-00-00-00-00-00) into the
router's "Clone MAC address" section.

ok guys ... thanks for the help. i figured it out by just installing the
router with the software that came with it. simple on screen instructions. i
will retain your suggestions for possible problems in the future, though.
