Router question ?

My friends daughter has gone to uni and has to live on campus for the first year. She is in a house with 11 other girls each with their own room.
Each room has a wired socket for connecting to the internet via a standard Ethernet cable.
The girl wants to buy a wireless router for use in her room.

Would this be a suitable router for the job ?

Are there any questions she needs to ask the IT dept before making a purchase ??

It depends on how the network is restricted. If there is a requirement to register a MAC address, she would have to give them the WAN port MAC address so that they could allow it to talk on the network. A connection test with a PC or laptop could let you know this. I am sure the technology department could tell you more.

Otherwise, should work like a charm.
 
We talking shared house or halls?
 
hmm, well that sounds like a halls type of arrangement?

If thats the case then its as SHS said above. :)

If its a share house the router depends on if they go ADSL or cable/VDSL basically. :)
 
I bought this one last year for €30:

TP-Link TL-MR3420

A "basic" wired/wireless router, nothing fancy, except that you can plug in a "mobile broadband USB dongle" as well.

Works like a chimp, and the prize was right.
