Hi,

Every now and then after little or no activity on the computer I go to open
a website or check e-mail and WinXP tells me there is no connection - 'Try
again?' or 'Work Offline?' It is the same as the pop up shown when trying to
check e-mails in Outlook Express while in Offline mode.

I have checked my Netgear router, conected via an ethernet cable, and
de-selected all the options I can find that allows the computer to turn it
off to power save (in the properties/ power settings/ control panel, etc.)
The problem still persists.

I have:

Asus M2N-E motherboard
1Gb RAM
AM2 dual processor (2.2Ghz)
WinXP
Netgear DG834PN router (hard wired)

My connection and speed are fine, there is always a DSL signal/ sync with
the router so it must be a Windows type thing going into offline mode??????

Any ideas?

Thanks
Stu

Hi Stuart,

I don't know if this will help, but sometimes it's necessary to reboot the
router I'm using. I have to power down the router and shut off the PC. I
bring up the router first and then after the router has completed its self
test and running properly I restart the PC.

This is the method my ISP has walked me through a couple of times.

Hope this helps,

I've tried your suggestion but it doesn't seem to work.

I have been noticing that if I leave a download going and come back some
time later the desktop has reverted to the welcome screen (I have two user
accounts running) and I have to start up my desktop again but the download
states the connection has been reset or disconnected, etc.

I'm thinking these to occurrences are linked???

All sorted.

My ISP was set to time out if idle. Also, the screen saver setting put it on
to the welcome screen.

Thanks guys.
