Router D-link 614+ sometimes disconnect and reconnect itself

I have this router well configured but sometimes the icon in windows
system tray says connectivity limited or absent and after some
seconds
again connected, 100 Mbps. This behaviour happens quite frequently
and
resets any connection, for example Windows Messanger (I have to
manually reconnect). Why?
This router is connected in uplink to Fastweb HUG device (the device
cominig from the fiber cable network).
I use win XP Professional.

Try unplugging the Dlink for a few seconds and plugging it back in to so a
soft reset to see if that helps. Another thing to try is to disable any
power setting savings for the network adapter in it's properties as
sometimes the computer turns them off to save power and they always do not
connect well after being powered up again. If the issue is with only one
wireless client device I would suspect that client device. If the issue
happens to multiple client devices I would suspect the router. If you have
only one wireless client device troubleshooting will be more difficult
unless you can bring another wireless client on the network to test. I have
seen many cases where these consumer wireless routers will suddenly start
acting up and sometimes resetting them to factory defaults and reconfiguring
helps but usually a replacement is in order. I have had the best luck with
the plain Jane Linksys WRT54G myself though I also hear that the Buffalo
high power G is also supposed to work well. A firmware upgrade would also be
worth trying if one is available as would trying a different wireless
channel and I usually prefer 11 or 1 as 6 is usually being used nearby.
Netstumbler is a free program you can use to survey wireless networks
available in your location including signal strength and channel being used.

Is the router set for UPnP enabled?

How well ventalated is the router? If the route, like most router,
over-heats, problems can occur.

I have noticed that this problem happens only when I use eMule
application and it is not related to Wi-fi connection. It happens also
with Wi-fi disabled.

In my preivous reply, I asked if the router is well ventalated.
Routers can over heat and cause problems whe too hot.

How old is the router?

yes, it is very well ventiled. I don't know how old is... 2/3 years
maybe...

One thing to conisder is to check for any firmware upgrade to the
router. The firmware is "software" insider the router which is used
to control it and how it accesses the Internet / LAN PCs. Please
follow the direction on how to upgrade the firmware (this should only
be done at "last" resort and over a "wired" connection, not over WiFi!)

The last d-Link I had did this too.

Solution:

throw on scrap heap and buy a Netgear.

No more restarts - no changes made to my network
at all to get it to work - so it's probably NOT a network
config issue, it's just a junk piece of hardware.

There can be a "lemon" router in each manufacturer. I had a D-link
router that did not give me any troubles until a "power failure"
surged it. I have seem "lemons" with Linksys, Netgear and TRENDnet.

I second this "notion" that the hardware is at fault. You can find an
afforable replacement unit that "offers" more features that the
current 614+.
