I have to install a router in my network and allow only
one user from any of the networked computers to use this
internet connection. I have connected the router to the
server with usb cable and i can get the server to use the
internet, but don't know how to allow this to be used on
other computers. The computers are conected by a hub and
only the server has a fixed IP address. Has anyone any
ideas please? I would be truly gratefull.

Make the firewall/ router a DHCP server, assign the DHCP range on router
outside of the scope of your static IP addresses. Set your pc's (excluding
server) to DHCP assigned for IP address and DNS, plug pc's into router via
hub if required. Plug internet connection into router WAN port.

Without more specifics, there will be some gaps in my answer. I do not have
experience with USB connection to the router. What brand and model is yours?
I would think that the literature that came with it might explain much of
this.

There is more than one way to do it. In my own home network setup, my
connection-sharing device has its own (default) IP address, which,
internally, is 192.168.1.1. I have my Windows 2000 DHCP server pass that out
as the default gateway. And all my systems plug into my router.

There is a Microsoft Networking Technology Community for Windows 2000 at
<http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/community/centers/networking/default.m
spx> and newsgroup just for this at microsoft.public.win2000.networking, or
<http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/community/newsgroups/dgbrowser/e
n-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.win2000.networking>. Get this, one of
the MVPs for that group is some guy named Dave Patrick. I bet he has some
good advice.
