Hi,

Here is my problem I am summing a column of numbers to the
secound decemal place however when I sum the values get a
number broken out past the the secound decemal place why.
the example below shows the issue however the column of is
1149 long.

example:
1.87
2.00
4.90
0.87
Total
9.6399999999

Are the numbers in the column entered or calculated?

If calculated, then although you have it formatted to show
only two decimals, it retains the full value and so you're
getting the answer that you do. To check, reformat the
cells to show, say four decimal places and check the
values.

Hi Mike!

Are your numbers formatted to show two decimal places or are they
rounded to show two decimal places.

If formatted, then your sum is summing the values stored by Excel
rather than those displayed in the cells.

If the individual numbers are rounded, then Excel is storing the same
as you are seeing (as long as you format to two decimal places as
well). The sum should then be the same as the sum indicated by manual
addition of the numbers seen on screen.

The numbers are calculated and formatted within the code
and also formatted in the cell. We are still getting this
result.

Format controls the display, not the underlying value. Either round the
results using the ROUND function, or if you are prepared for everything
in site to be rounded, you can set Tools|Options|Calculation|Precision
as Displayed.
