I'm in the process of setting a Test environment for Terminal Server App
setup.....done some bkground reading and read abt the rootdrv.cmd command
which is used.....

Is this required in WinNT4 only or also Win2k....... I can sortof get an
idea what its used for...........

But when someone installs an application how does this drive come into
play......the user installs to c:\program files~ but how does the rootdrv
work........

Anyone can breifly explain this. I read the knowledge base on it but doesn't
mention that Win2k requires this rootdrv.cmd command.....

Thanks

I assume that you have read this article:

195950 - How and why ROOTDRIVE is used on Windows Terminal Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=195950

Although the article mentions only Windows NT 4.0 TSE, you will
need to run the rootdrv.cmd on W2K and 2003 as well, as soon as
you install an application which is not 100% TS-compatible and
which needs an Application Compatibility Script.

Note that %rootdrive% doesn't point at the application root
(c:\program files), but to the users home directory.

I've read all the doco and started to play around with TS on our domain...but
there's one thing I'm sortof confused abt.............

If I don't put any settings for the user under their accounts profile for TS
Roaming profile and home drive...... when the user logs on they see the
rootdrv drive as "x:"

But when I config the roaming profile/homedrive for TS under their AD
account settings ie.
Roaming profile \\as2hkd00\profiles\NBKAAW6
Homedrive h:\\as2hkdgap00\users\NBKAAW6

then when I log on I see the homedrive as h:\ and inside theres the
windows\system directory.. and the profile gets written to
\as2hkd00\profiles\NBKAAW6

but the supposedly "x:" rootdrive comes up as a network drive with an
X(disconnected) icon next to it.............

I'm not sure if this config is right b/c we have WinXp desktops with local
profiles and network home drives and want to set the TS profiles to roaming
and the TS homedrive to be the same as the desktop networked homedrive......

But then whats supposed to happen with the rootdrv for legacy appss.....I'm
a bit coniused...........

Any advice on how this should be properly setup would be appreciated........
