Root Server - No IP Forwarding

Just created a new 2000 domain at a separate site. The domain is internal.
There is only 1 server there and about 20+ clients.
..
Local Server 100.100.100.2
Gateway 100.100.100.1

When I use the local server as the primary and gateway as the secondary, I
can log in but no internet. When I use the gateway as the primary and the
local as the secondary, I get internet but no network login ie. Kixtart,
Policies etc... It also takes a few minutes to log in. I'm not that
familiar with DNS. I think adding forwarders for the ISP would work but its
a root server and I can't enable forwarding. Given the fact that this is
the one and only server in the domain, the Active Directory DNS will only
allow me to create a root - if I'm not mistaken. Of course there is only
the possibility that I could be wrong. ;-). How can I configure the server
to enable client logins and internet service?

Thanks,
Jim

Remove the *.* root zone in your AD DNS and then you can enable forwarders.

All servers and workstations should specify *only* the internal
AD-integrated DNS server's IP address in their network settings. The
AD-integrated DNS server should be set up with forwarders to your ISP's DNS
servers for external resolution. See

info.
