I want to change the root hints to be only my ISP DNS
servers, however when I delete the root hints....they come
back...

How should I do this? I have serveral sites and I want my
corporate DNS servers to be the only ones to query the ISP
dns.

should I use forwarders in the remote sites that point to
to corp dns servers? does a forward entry override root
hints?

Thanks in advance!

Don't do that! If you want only your ISP's DNS to answer for your DNS server
Check the "Do not use recursion" box on the forwarders tab. That will make
your DNS server *NOT* use its root hints.

To change your root hints you have to manually edit the cache.dns file.

If you want this behavior there is a much easier way. On the forwarders tab, check the check box for Do not use recursion.

Thank you,
