I get the following message when I try to re-install the game '_is10.tmp. has
encountered a problem and needs to close'. Any ideas please? Rebooting
doesn't work and all previous traces of the game, as far as search is
concerned, have been removed.

Hi Frustrated,

Let's try a couple of things to get Total War installed for you:

1. Startup your system in SAFE MODE by pressing F8 repeatedly
while your system is booting up after you've shut down your system

2. Log in with an account you've created as a "Computer Administrator"
account that you'll use to play the game, but don't use a Limited account.

Hi Jimmy

Tried what you suggested but unfortunately I got this message when I tried
to install the game whilst in safe mode '1607:Unable to Install Shield
Scripting Runtime.' Any other suggestions please? Thanks.

Phil

Hi Frustrated,

This issue occurs on some systems depending on the system configuration and privileges
set for the user. Listed below are some common causes of this error message:

1.. The user does not have administrative privileges on the machine.
This pertains to Windows NT, 2000, or XP machines.

2.. The ALLUSERS property is not set appropriately for the IsScript.msi file.
This is only true for the Installation of Express 3.54 itself. Express 3.54 setup
is based on InstallScript, leading to this error message.

3.. Permissions are not set appropriately on the Installer folder in the Windows folder.

4.. An older version of InstallShield Express 3.x is installed on the machine, and
the older version fails to uninstall properly. This usually happens when upgrading
Express from an older version to a newer one.

5.. Multiple instances of files Msiexec.exe or IDriver.exe may be running in the memory.

6.. Windows Installer Service may not be properly installed or configured on the machine.

7.. The setup is trying to remove a file that is locked on the machine. This issue generally
occurs when setup is being removed using the Remove option of the Add Remove
Programs applet on Windows XP, 2000, or ME.

Hi Jimmy

When I go to programs and look up InstallShield I cannot find Isscrpt.msi,
which means I cannot follow the solutions offered. Can you help with this
please?

Regards, Phil

Hi Frustrated,

Step 2 only applies for the Installation of Express 3.54 itself.
Therefore, you can safely skip step 2 and continue to step 3.
