Hi,

First of all pardon me if this question is not in the right place.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 1000 a few years ago and it came preinstalled with
Windows XP SP2 on it. Recently I have been having enormous trouble
installing updates such as Internet Explorer 7. I heard that it is possible
to roll your computer back to the settings that it had when you first bought
it, and I am unsure how to do that.
Does anyone else know?

Your comments are appreciated.

You should consult the documentation that came with it, or if that's gone,
look on the Dell website for a handbook you can download...

Dell would know - they are the ones that make it "... possible to roll your
computer back to the settings that it had when you first bought it ..." if
anyone is in your case.

That should be your last resort. You have trouble with updates, yet if you
set it back to the state it was in when you bought it, you'll have close to
80 updates requiring installation. What have you done so far? What was the
problems?

Thank you for the replys.

I have had a hell of a time trying to get Internet Explorer 7 working. I
always get a "Installation did not complete" message in the middle of the
installation. Im also having various issues reinstalling my antivirus,
Onecare Live. There is also a few small glitches in my system that appear to
be the result of downloaded and uninstalled programs that I have put on there
over the years. Reinstalling my OS just seems to be the best way to get back
to a clean slate.
