I'm setting up a home LAN with a Netgear router connected
to my Comcast broadband cable box, and wireless
connections to the router from pc's. I want to be able to
have a roaming profile, so that my favorites/email/etc
will be up to date and synchronized no matter what pc in
my house I log in to. I currently have Home edition on
the two pc's in the house.

Will I need to put XP professional on one or both pc's in
order to enable a roaming user profile?

Thanks.

It doesn't matter what PC is hosting the profile share. It could even be
Windows 98 if you want. Your operating system must support configuration of
user profiles. Without a domain controller, your client operating systems
are limited to NT workstation, 2000 Pro or XP Pro.

Just so a simple minded guy like me understands (and doesn't spend any more money on new software than I need to). Here's my situation. I have two pc's in the house. One I use most of the time. It's running Windows XP Home. I have another pc downstairs, currently running Home also. The upstairs pc is connected to my Netgear router by an ethernet cable (as it is physically located right next to the router). The downstairs pc is connecting to the router by wireless. If I want my profile to be able to roam to the downstairs computer, that downstairs computer must have XP Pro (I wouldn't use 2000) installed on it, to be a client station? I can keep XP Home on my main pc upstairs, and use it as the server pc for my two pc network? I appreciate any education you can give me if I don't have this correct
