dear ng
i have a w2k-server network with roaming profiles, clients -> xp-prof. one
user has a desktop computer with all software installed on it. now he bought
a laptop which is also in the same network (domain). the laptop does not
have all the software installed as his desktop computers. when the user logs
to the domain on his laptop his desktop also shows links the programms which
are not installed. is there a way to have different desktops, depending on
which clients he's working.

thank you
hans

Well, a user either has a roaming profile or he doesn't. But, try this:

1. Create an OU and place the laptop's computer account in it.

2. Create a GPO with the following setting:

Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/Logon

enable Only allow local user profiles.

You should then be able to configure the laptop profile as desired, bearing
in mind that the user will not be getting any roaming profile settings. If
some of those settings are desireable, you will have to create them
separately on the laptop.
