RMA'ing my WD drive from the UK

It's a 40GB Caviar 7200 spindle speed. I don't want to spend too much
on the fully trackable service, although if I end up with a better drive
I will probably consider it

The only thing that concerns me is that the new warranty date will be 3
months from receipt of the new drive rather than the date on the
original one - unless I've read something incorrectly

Good reason to avoid WD drives in my opinion.

They cant get away with that legally.

More fool you if they have such ****ed RMA systems.

Its not as if the sun shines our of WD's arse technology wise either.

I'd say you've probably read something incorrectly. Warranty procedures are
normally "3 months from receipt of new drive *or* remainder of existing
warranty, whichever is *longer*".

I say usually though.. I don't actually know in WD's case.

Similar with Maxtor - your replacement is in warranty only until the end
date of the warranty of your original drive.

Anyone noticed BTW that Maxtor only now give one year rather than the three
they used to?

Thats just about universal now on at
least some of the manufacturer's drives.

The main exception now is Samsung which still
has a full 3 year warranty on all their drives.
