RMA or not?

I posted a few days ago about my 9800 pro with the bad fan. If I do rma it
am I going to get someone else's card that has been repaired and maybe
tested or not. I was planning to upgrade the heatsink anyway but I figured I
might as well return the card in case it got damaged. Now
I am wondering if I might get some other guy's problem instead. Of course I
would rather get a brand new card
but is that highly unlikely? Is there any way I can make
sure that my card was not damaged by the heat treatment it got. I mean that
heatsink got damned hot.

when ati gets cards back you can almost guarentee that it is a new one and
not a refirb.

If you return it, you will get a "different" card, most likely someone
else's repaired card although it could be a "new" card.

However, my experience with ATI has been excellent, I've had to return 4
cards, and I've never gotten a card back that didn't work fine.

I think it's really terrible that ATI won't just exchange a fan. I've
had cards that just had noisy fans with bad bearings (still worked) and
they require that you return the entire card for a fan that would cost
less than the shipping charge. I waited until I had to return a
different card, and swapped the fans.

In your case, you MAY have fried the actual Radeon chip, which is a far
bigger issue. Frankly, I'd WANT to "swap cards", because the chip may
have "latent" damage that won't be immediately obvious.
