Rise of Nations or Civilization III?

I know this is probably not the best NG for this post, but I'm curious if I
was to buy one game which one would you recommend of the two? Why? Which one
is more complex?

Tricky question and they're very different games.

Civilisation is massive with games lasting anywhere up to 50 hours, may be
more depending on how much you micro-manage, it's turn based too.

Rise of Nations is more of a a mix between Age of Empires with elements from
Civilisation, it's all in real time, you can get most games over and done
with in an hour or two.

I think they actually supplement each other quite well, wouldn't be without
either of them. Civ 3 if you want extremely long and drawn out games, and
then RoN for little quick romps.
