while trying to get an IP Address from the dhcp server so
I can use ris to install pro, the client machine gives a
message, cannot resolve ip address 255.255.255.255 - why
is my dhcp trying to give out a broadcast addressa?

Hi Laurie,

The issue may occur because the RIS server is multihomed or from other causes such
such as a Dell Remote Access Card (DRAC). The BINL service needs the following in order
to operate on a multi-homed RIS server:

(1) DHCP to be installed on the same server
(2) a scope activated for each NIC on the machine
(3) each NIC be authorized, regardless of subnet

Try disabling the Remote Access Controller (RAC) Service.

If DHCP is on a different server this not work because the BINL service will not think that the
RIS server is authorized. As a workaround, you may be able to install the DHCP service on
the RIS server and not activate any scopes.

If you are going across a "router", then this may fail. Move the RIS files to the local network..

Thanks,
Gary
