We had a Windows 2000 Server that was operating as our Remote Installation
Server, deploying Windows XP SP1, crash. The Volume the OS is on is fine. We
can boot the box, however the directory containing the RIS images is gone.
We were also deploying Office 2003 from this server using this as the
Administrative installation point, this is gone as well. We only have an old
backup which has the RIS images but we have lost our Office 2003 Custom
Installation.
We are considering creating a new RIS server running Windows 2003, this time
having it in the backup routine. The questions are can I restore the old
images to this new server or should I restore them to the old server first
and then create the 2003 server, copying the necessary file from the old one
then? Is there a way I can point my XP clients to this new RIS server so
that if they ever need the windows xp installation source files they can
access them from the new server, instead of looking for the old one. And can
I do the same thing for the Office 2003 clients.
Any other suggestions not covered here would be appreciated.
Thanks,
James Borg
