Hi all,
This is not the first time I make this question, but I
insist in getting an answer, all I have received are
offers for alternative products, which does not bother me
but it´s not what I want.
Fist question I will ask now is just to collect opinions,
so I´d like to see every opinion even if there is no
answer for the second question: What do administrators do
these days when they receive new client machines with 40,
60 or more gigabytes of hard disk space? Does it make
sense to format them with a single big partition?
Personally I´d prefer to partition the drive creating a
partition for the OS and applications and a second, bigger
partition for user data, I think that in the long run,
this approach eases administration a great deal, but it
seems that MS does not think the same, so here is my
problem and second question:
- How do I manage to use RIS to install or reinstall
Windows 2000 on drive C on a machine partitioned like this
without deleting the user data partition (lets call it D)
I have tried unsuccessfully the Repartition and
UseWholeDisk parameters of the corresponding sif files and
I have unsuccessfully searched MS and the net looking for
an answer. Any help will be greatly appretiated.

Can't do. You'll need something besides RIS for that. Running diskpart as
a [guirunonce] isn't answer either.

I agree with you on the HDD partitions ... only problem is
convincing the user base to quit saving everything to C:
and using up space researved for the OS and applications.

As for the disk cloning process ...
I've always used an app such as Ghost "Image to a
partiotion" to achieve the results that you are wanting.
