I still have to trial RIPrep with RIS, but generally speaking images should
be created for set machine configurations. I used to be able to use Ghost
images on similar machines as long as the motherboard chip sets were in the
same class, like all BX series PII Gateway machines. Win2k would then
handle resolving minor hardware differences when it booted. It was
"cheating", but it worked and saved some time. If you go too far with
different manufacturers and MB chips it will most likely fail and you will
probably get some pretty strange results including blue screens.
As long as the machines have the same hardware abstraction layer, you will
be able to deploy the same RiPrep image to different machines.
