Hello,

I've RIS for my windows 2000 network. I've to deploy 25
laptop in XP UK&FR + many application. I've SP4 and
updated riprep.exe for XP.

My problem is :
The 25 laptops are in leasing. So the XP licence are not
mine. But I've normaly the Corporate Licence for 2000 & XP.

I've install RIS. Put the Dell CD Windows XP (not
corporate) on the RIS. I've install a DELL GX110 with RIS
because I've haven't the new 25 laptop yet. In the
installation XP has demande me the CD KEY (dam). My
corporate Key didn't work (dam again). So I've taken the
XP Key under the Laptop given by Microsoft. After
installation, I've installed all applications like Office.
Before doing the riprep I've look in eventvwr. And what a
surprise : XP need to be activated !!

So what can I do ?

- Ignore the activation, do the riprep, modify the
unattended.txt or something else to activate XP ?
- Delete All, use my Corporate CD, create all again ?
- Ignore the activation, do the riprep, and when I use the
RIS, I call Microsoft each time I install a computer ?

Any idea ?

Yeah, without MSDN or volume licensing cds you need to specify a unique
Product ID for each RIS. You could edit the ProductID field in the *.SIF
for each laptop before RISing so they all get the right ID - that sucks as a
solution but its better that taking a cd to each laptop.

Thanks Scott,

I've found my XP corporate FR CD. I'm going to do the
french first the time I'll get the UK version.

Do you have any web site for the first RIS installation ?
I know few things about unattended.txt & .sif . I'd like
to have a web site in help. Microsoft White paper for RIS
are too directed one 1 subject. And RIS + unattend + sif =
3 parts. I haven't find good web site on :
"he dude, do this for your 1st RIS".

;)
