Hi all,
I'm a RIS newbie....I have a lot of doubts...Anyone may help me?

I have a Windows 2000 Adv. Serv. machine and I have installed the RIS
Service, it automatically asked me for the windows 2000 Pro CD....everything
OK. Then at Active Directory Users and Computers, in Domain Controllers I
found where to add new operating systems, I have added Win 2000 Serv.
(English) and XP Home Edition (Spanish), but when I boot a new machine to
install a OS the last one doenst appear, why??

How can I add software, drivers, SPs, etc... to these images??

I tried to execute riprep.exe, but it says It cannot find it? where is the
GUI to configure the RIS Server??

Thanks

The XP Home Spanish cd-based image doesn't appear and the others do?

You can add new images by Start>Risetup (ok)

You can browse to RIPPRE as follows <server>\<ris
drive>:\RemoteInstall\Admin\i386\Riprep.exe.

Make sure to use the latest version of RIPREP:

Update for the Riprep Tool
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;313069

You can add drivers as follows:

How to Add a Third-Party OEM Network Adapter to an RIS Installation
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315279

To add software, we usually install the software then run RIPREP on the
machine.

yes, the XP HE (Spanish) doesnt appear and W2k Pro (English) and W2k Server
(English) do appear
It has something to do with the language, do I have to do anytrhing to allow
more than 1 language?

I see....

I think I dont understand.....I don't understand the philosophy of RIPREP...
are you meaning that being on a client machine X with XP HE and office XP
and a bunch of Software and drivers, you browse
<server>\<risdrive>:\RemoteInstall\Admin\i386\Riprep.exe to generate a image
which like computer X so you can replicate it to another computer Y and at
the end of installation X is eqaul to Y??? This would be great!

That's exactly right. Since you want Office set up, read this too:

HOW TO: Distribute Office XP by Using the Microsoft Windows 2000 Remote
Installation Services (RIS)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309276

Maybe one of these articles will help you with the Spanish OS image:

Clients Installed Through RIS Need Access to the CD to Install Additional
Languages
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;241063

To customize the welcome screens in English & Spanish:

Description of Client Installation Wizard Screens for Remote Installation
Services
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;268325

Finally, run RISETUP and redo the Spanish OS cd, be careful to not make the
image name longer that 39 chars and just use standard english chars. I'm
sorry I can't be more help with this, we don't use anything but English at
my organization.

As far as I am aware you cannot RIS Server, only Pro,
ensure all of the language files correspond on your RIS
Server, master system and source files.
