I have been using RIS to deploy XP for over one year now. Recently I got
some new Dell GX270's in, and had to create another image for these. When I
got
to the point of using riprep to push it up, I get this error "Domain
Controller Detected" during the wizard. This is at the compatibility screen,
and if you click on details it says "This utility cannot be run on a Windows
2000 Domain Controller". The box in question only has XP w/SP1,
with a small application for the client. There must be some logical
reason why this would occur, because this workstation is not a DC.

Thanks for any help you can give me...

I am getting the same error using a Gateway Profile 5. I
have tried using the Select CD of XP w/SP1 and just Select
CD of XP appling SP1 from the web before doing a Riprep.
Did not make a difference. I have been able to create
other XP images for different makes and models of PC's and
laptops (HP and Gateway). I created a Win2K image on the
Profile 5 and successfully did a Riprep image up to my RIS
server. Any help would be appreciated.

The problem described by the OP (shabadoo) is a rare one, but we tracked it
down. In his case the problem occured after he installed some software
after RISing a box.

If your RIS installation is working correctly, you should be able to:

1. RIS a workstation.
2. Do not touch the workststation, no hotfixes, nothing.
3. Riprep the workstation back to the RIS server successfully.

Can you do that? If so, then you must look at what you are installing on
the workstation after the initial RIS. Don't install hotfixes that change
the ntoskrnl.exe version number. Don't install additional service packs,
they should be slipstreamed into a flat of the cd-based image and a *new*
RIS image added to the RIS server (don't try slipstreaming an existing RIS
image).

If you can still RIPREP after the hotfixes, then look at the 3rd party
software you are installing - install individually and test RIPREP each
time.

Also, make sure you have the latest version of RIPREP.
