Hello all,

I wonder if there is any freeware program to archive parts of a DVD
movie (basically a DVD ripper).

Thanks for your time,

FCC.

Love your signature line.

I've found this is a quite complicated process. Some tools I found are:
- Gordian Knot
- EasyDivx

Even though some tools combine many command-line programs, they still don't
seem to give me an AVI file after I rip from the DVD. DVDs are composed of VOB
files, and I either get video without sound, or just a plain green screen
(which took 1.5 hours to rip).

I do my backups, with DVD Shrink. This program will get past any encryption,
and will shrink the jumbo DVD's down to fit on a 4.7GB DVD. So far, I can't
even notice the compression loss. It's a small, 1 File Wonder, and very easy
to use.

Once ripped, I do the final DVD burning with Burnatonce.

I wish my spell checker would quit trying to replace "Burnatonce" with
"Urination". :\

AutoGK is the simplest and, strangely enough, it gives great results
according to the users

For DVD to DivX:
I'm probably a dinosaur, but I use smart ripper 2.41
(http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Rippers/SR241.rar), and http://www.vidomi.com/
and encode to either XviD or divx3.11.
