Is it possible to rip an audio soundtrack from a DVD movie? (It is played
in the middle of the movie). Of course, is there a freeware program to do
this?

You could look up the music in the credits and go and buy it!

Welll.. it's a multi step proceedure

Assuming the dvd is copy protected, you rip it to disk with dvdshrink
(free)

You can then "prepare" it for dvd burn with rejig ( free). This will
separate the audio from the video. you don't care about the
preparation, only the separation

Once you've got the audio separated you can edit it as you wish. You
may have to fool around with format conversions. Can't rrmemeber which
editor I used the last time I did this

see dvdrhelp.com for references to the dvd software

Thanks.

Couldn't you just use one of the innumerable freeware soundcard direct
recorders to do this? For example, I've use SVRecord to record theme music
off some DVDs.

Am I misinterpreting your request.
