Right mouse click

I have XP Pro installed and I recently installed updates.
Since then whenever I right click on the desktop I receive the message
"Windows Explorer has caused a fault and will close" or words to that effect.
The computer then freezes.
Other than a complete reinstall is there any other remedy?
