When I go Start/My Computer/ then I click on my hard drive or my DVD-ROM it opens to Search... instead of Open. This means when I right click on these two, instead of Open, Explore, Search..., it says Search..., Open, Explore.

I have been trying to figure out how to fix this and all I can find is how to ADD more options but not how to change the order.

Please help.

Thank you in advance

Av

Try this ...
  1. Double-click on My Computer.
  2. Go to Tools, Folder Options, then File Types.
  3. Find the file type of DRIVE with extension of (NONE).
  4. Click Advanced, then Set Default.
Let me know if that works.

No... :(

I tried it.

I think I have to modify the registry, but I can't find where...

Thanks,

Av

system restore?!?!

No, I dont want to do that. This is a new machine and the restore point that I can remember before this wasn't happening, is before I put all my websites on here (even before I installed Dreamweaver). I want to avoid having to do all that again. Oh, I also put a gig of images on here, Office 03 Pro, Photoshop, and a few other things....yea I don't want to do all that again...lol.

Thanks tho... :o

If you are using XP more so to the point thats what it is for you can undo the restore IFyou can not access you programs .;) after restore to an earlier time it should not affectyour programs.

Are you saying, if I restore and my programs are gone I can UNDDO the restore?

Av

PS I still want to fix this manually

Yes you can undo your last restore and more, thats what it is for;)

Also a restore won't erase your images, its may UNINSTALL programs but will not remove them. You have to go through the set up again sometimes. Next thing, if you can't remember what you did to casue that, then its difficult to help. Reboot tapping f-8 and choose LAST KNOW GOOD CONFIG--- if that dosen't solve it then go into safe mode, uninstall your motherboard RESOURCES, then the mouse drivers and restart.

If that dosn't work then I'd say try a restore--- its completly reversable 98% of the time ( i say that becasue this is what i do for a living, and I have definatley walked some real idiots through this more than 100 times and I've only seen it unable to undo last restre like 2-3 times.)

And as far as someone who can fix it---- could always call microsoft and pay per minute

Well, I gave up on doing the change manually. I did the restore and just had to fix a few things, and now my problem is fixed.

Thanks all,

Av

PS I love your Firefox avatar!
