Is there a freeware program that will allow me to add items to the menu
I get when I right-click on a file in Windows Explorer? For example, I
would like to be able to right-click on an image file and have a choice
of programs I can edit the file with. Thank you in advance for all
replies.

Cousin Daniel ....

One way to deal with this
is to add the shortcuts
to the programs you want to use
to the Windows SendTo Folder ....

C:\Windows\SendTo

{ No Space in the filename here,
but I may have re-named it }

Then, right-click on a file,
scroll down to Send To
then the program of your choice ....

We used to be able to add options for any file type we wanted using Windows
Explorer.

Run Windows Explorer. Tools, Options, File Types tab. Click the File Type
for which you want to add an option on the right-click menu. If there is an
Advanced button, click it. (For some file types, there is no Advanced
button, just a Change button - in WinXP that is.) In Edit File Type box,
click New button to add a new Action for this File Type. Type a name for
the "Action" and then in "Application used to perform action", browse for
the program you wish to perform the action. Edit the command line if
required. Click OK to get out of the menus. Now, whenever you right-click
on a File of that File Type, the new Action that you defined will appear on
the right-click menu.

You can edit the registry to do this.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileEx
