Hi,
I am writing in hopes that someone knows why right
clicking on an open area of desk top or an open window
would cause explorer to close with a page fault. xp
dosn't blue screen, it just closes explorer and then
reloads the desktop. Error message sent to Microsoft
various times with no response from the archives. I just
reinstalled xp home and all upgrades from microsoft
website, due to over crowded hard drive. My last option
is to to format and try again, but I'm hoping not to. Any
help would be appreciated. This was the error message
windows gave me:

The application, C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe, generated an
application error The error occurred on 11/24/2003 @
13:56:56.421 The exception generated was c0000005 at
address 77D46D9C (USER32!WCSToMBEx)

Some things to try before you reload windows.
chkdsk c: /r (to check the file system for errors)
sfc /scannow (to check protected files)
update your video card driver.

If you have the real xp cdrom (not a manufacturers
"restore" disk) you could try the repair install
option.
