Right Click cause IE Fault and PC lockup

Under Windows XP Home edition with service pack 2 and all current patches
installed I have a PC that is experiencing issues when a right click is
performed on any of the shortcut icons on the desktop. You can left click on
any ICON and there are no issues. Applications run without issue but if you
right click on say Quicken or other application ICONs the right click
dialogue box does not appear. Instead you get an hour glass followed by an
error message stating Explorer has encountered an error and most close. It
then asks for permission to send a message to Microsoft. After you click yes
send the message a second error dialog box pops up saying DR Watson has
experienced an error and must close and is it OK to report the error. After
saying yes on this one the PC stops responding requiring a cold boot or
reset. ALT-CTL-DEL has no effect. This situation also occurs in safe mode
and when all start up apps have been disabled using msconfig.
Right click does work on My Computer, the Trash Basket and My Network.
Anyone have any suggestions. From the application log this is the sequence
of errors after right clicking on an application ICON

1- Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module
msvcr71.dll, version 7.10.3052.4, fault address 0x0000111d.

2 - Fault bucket 136597269.

3 - Faulting application drwtsn32.exe, version 5.1.2600.0, faulting module
dbghelp.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0001295d.

I see nothing in the text of your message that mentions IE, only
explorer.exe
Perhaps you should post to an XP newsgroup?

....Alan

No, explorer.exe is Windows Explorer. IE =iexplore.exe, usually
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
