Basic question:

When attaching a DVD or CD player to a ribbon cable with 3 connectors (1
to the MB and 2 for devices), does it matter whether the master is on
the connector closest to the mb connector or does it not matter?

Thanks

It doesnt matter except when its the only drive on the cable.

When it is, its better on the end, so you dont have an unterminated stub.

Does not matter. But both devices (if there are two) need to be
jumpered to master/slave (respectively). Having one jumoerd and
one do cable-select will only work in one configuration.
