Hi I seem to be getting traffic to my site but people are not staying
or making purchases. Could anyone review my site and give me some
feedback? Also a lot of hits to my site are from the USA and only a
small percentage from the UK which is where I want to target it. I have
heard of a ranking booster could anyone tell me what it is and if it
works. Any help would be appreciated.
The site is www.directink.biz

I can tell you that many of your links are bad. They are pointing to your
the hard drive on your local pc, not the server.

Well, for one thing, there is no place on the web site that explains what it
is for.

You might assume that people could tell from the looks of it, but that's
assuming a lot. Some can, and some cannot. A simple statement on the home
page, like "Buy all of your Printer supplies here" would be helpful.

Another factor could be the length of time your site has been up and
running. If it hasn't been up very long, don't expect a lot of traffic for
awhile. It is important to understand the scope of the Internet if you want
to make money with it. As of this month, according to Netcraft
(http://news.netcraft.com/archives/web_server_survey.html), there are over
90 million host names on the Internet. To give you an idea of that number,
there are 9 million people in the city of New York. Now, multiply the city
of New York by 10, and you've got the number of web sites on the Internet.
Now, imagine that the Internet is a city, with 90 million stores in it. How
many people are likely to walk into your store on the first day you open it?
How many people can even *find* it?

The DotCom crash happened about 5 or so years ago. It was caused by people
who got the idea that the Internet was an easy place to make money, and
invested their money in web enterprises that didn't make it, and there are
many of those. You basically have the same set of circumstances to deal with
that a store owner has, to be successful. You need to create a web site that
offers something people want, makes it convenient and safe for them to get
it, and then you have to market your web site, put it in front of people
where they can see it. Draw customers in. With a lot of hard work and smart
decision-making, you can still make money on the Internet.

Adding to Kevin's excellent comments, also keep in mind there is a lot of
competition in printer supplies.

Hi Tom
Thanks for taking the time to take a look. Can I ask you how you know
this and how do I change it?
Thanks

John

Hi Kevin

Thanks for this. I am building links and have tried google ad words
but they are very expensive and have not brought in the returns. I have
also submitted articles with links to my site. Can you make any
suggestions for how to market it? Also does a ranking booster work?

Thanks
John

Well, John, I'm no marketing expert, but I'll tell you what I know.

First, get used to the idea that it's going to cost you. By that I don't
mean necessarily that it will cost you *money*, but it's going to cost you
either money, or the equivalent in terms of effort, which is probably better
in any case.

Remember that an Internet store front is not much different than a physical
one. The same principles apply, with a few exceptions, such as the fact that
your web site is accessible from anywhere in the world. But so is everyone
else's.

You have to provide something people need. You have to provide a competitive
price, and competitive service. And most importantly, you need to get people
to "walk in" to your store.

Getting people to visit your web site can be done in a number of ways:
Search Engines
Reciprocal Links (You link to someone else, and they link to you).
Attractive goodies - Free information, anything that is free and
attracts visitors
Advertising

Here are some links that may help:

Because we can see the bad links back to your C:\ drive.

Also, you have spaces in folder and file names (they will appear as %20) you
need to remove the spaces (you can use dash -, instead) this is due to your
being on a linux/apache server - also stick to all lowercase.
