My HP 1430n has had problems connecting to the Internet. It might take
anywhere from immediately.... to several hours before the cable connection
can recognize the IP address. HP indicates this is a result of a problem
with their latest BIOS Update. Seems correct, as the Internet issue happened
about the same time as the BIOS Update.

Another HP Tech told me to do a "Power Drain." He said: "remove all the
external connections connected to the computer like a printer, keyboard,
mouse , Ac power connector etc. Let the tower be all by itself. Keep
Pressing the power button on the computer for 10-15 seconds and and release
it. This is the power drain feature."

Anybody have experience with this? What do you think?

Thanks very much,

Marc

On many laptops, that is the BIOS reset mechanism - power down, remove AC
and battery, press and hold Power for perhaps 30 seconds. On power up, go
into BIOS and check the system date. If it's current, try again.

On a desktop system, you'd probably also have to remove the battery, but
there is normally a BIOS Clear jumper set. You power down, remove the
battery, short the jumpers, and this removes user configuration data. It
may *not* remove flashed updates.

It's certainly an inexpensive thing to try.
