We have two dns servers a primary and secoundary......
the primary forwards the zone info to the secoundary and
the records have formed ok.... however when we ping IP
addresses they still do not resolve the names... why is
this?

It is a mixed mode domain still running WINS could this
be the problem.....

Cheers

the title says "reverse lookup problem", but the body of your message did
not contain any reference to reverse. So, have you looked in the reverse
zones on both servers to whether there are records there? Check to make sure
that you even have a zone for your reverse records in DNS. You also have the
option to have DNS use your existing WINS servers for resolution of records
that the DNS can not find. Are you using that option?

So when you do a ping -a 192.168.0.2 it does not return the host name?
Have you configure a reverse lookup zone?
