Reverse Hard Drive Designation on Upgrade?

I've just ordered a new MB, processor, and memory to upgrade my computer,
and I'd like to correct a little problem when I make the change, if I could.
The problem is that I have 2 hard drives in my current system, and the newer
one, which is the boot drive, is designated as the E drive, and the old one
is called C. This happened when I added the new drive about a year ago.
It's not a big problem, but I'd like to reverse the designations, making the
newer drive C.

When I connect the drives to the new board, is there a good way to reverse
the designations? Should I just connect the newer one first by itself, and
then connect the older one later?

I'm running XP, home version.

I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks,

Jack

XP allows you to assign any letter to any drive. Log in as
Administrator (if you haven't already) then

Go to Control Panel/AdministrativeTools/
ComputerManagement/DiskManagement and select the HD in question.
Right-click and select Change Drive Letter and Paths. Do whatever seems
reasonable.

I followed this:

Thanks for the tip - I was unaware I could do that. When I make the change,
will XP update any program properties or shortcuts to reflect the change, or
will I have to do all that by hand.

Thanks,

Jack

Can't answer that one since I have always made the changes before hand.
Try it and let us know. Windows is very good about maintaining links
when moving files between folders on the same drive, so it *might* work
across drives, but don't be surprised if it doesn't.

I just tried that, and when I tried to change my "E" drive (my system and
boot drive) to "C", I got an error message saying I couldn't change the
system or boot drive. I was able to change my C drive to F, but my real
objective is to make my main boot drive become "C". Any other ideas? When
I swap in my new motherboard, will I have a chance to rename the drive to C?

Thanks
