I have a W2K Server hosting public DNS records for my
organization. I have set up a forward zone and the
operating system has automatically created the reverse
zone and records. When I utilize www.dnsreport.com to see
if my server is set up correctly it reports the following
regarding Reverse DNS entries for my MX record:

ERROR: The IP of one or more of your mail server(s) have
no reverse DNS (PTR) entries (if you see "Timeout" below,
it may mean that your DNS servers did not respond fast
enough). RFC1912 2.1 says you should have a reverse DNS
for all your mail servers. It is strongly urged that you
have them, as many mailservers will not accept mail from
mailservers with no reverse DNS entry. You can double-
check using the 'Reverse DNS Lookup' tool at the DNSstuff
site. The problem MX records are:
xx.xx.xxx.xx.in-addr.arpa [No reverse DNS entry (rcode: 3
ancount: 1)]

I have checked the DNS record for my mail server and it
appears to be set up properly. Any ideas what might cause
this or how I might begin to troubleshoot the problem?

Your ISP needs to register the PTR records for you since they own the IP
address range and (most likely) host the reverse lookup zone for the public
IP range.
