hi

i building a navigation system in powerpoint. i figured
out how to launch linked ole objects by placing each one
on a slide and using powerpoints animation settings to
show it. Now, I need to get the user back to the slide
that they navigated from.

For example:

1. they click on a button to launch linked child
presentation on slide 3 of the parent.
2. this takes them them to slide 10 in the parent with
the linked ole object on that then launches.
3. they finish with the ole linked child presentation and
exit by pressing a button.
4. (Bit I'm stuck on) they arrive back on slide 3 in the
parent

any ideas about achieving step 4?

I have been asked by client to use ole objects. I'm aware
there are easier ways.

If they are different shows, you could set the Action Setting for the
button to Hyperlink to "End Show." If they are in the same show use the
Action Settings to Hyperlink to "Last Slide Viewed."

Barn2003,

Why not skip step 2, then have step 1 button link to the ole object?, it will then return to slide 3.

This is all in one presentation right?

yes, its all one presentation.

Is linking via the 'actions settings' to another
presenation the same as using the 'show' ole verb option
of an ole object?

Currently, in order to get the linked ole object to
appear I've applied the following custom animation
settings.

1. appear (with previous)
2. show (after previous)

The user actually is sent to a blank side with auto
advance set to 0.00 which when then advances on to the
slide with the linked ole object (so the animations play
again when the user visits the slide again).

So the if user was on slide 3 or another slide on the
presentation they could press a button which takes them
to the blank slide for example slide 9 which auto
advances to sldie 10 with the linked ole object on. The
user must be able to get to ole linked presentation from
any slide.

when the user exits the using an 'end show' button they
are actually on slide 10 and i need them to be on slide 3
if thats where they came from.

sorry if i haven't explained very well. For some stupid
reason my client wants me to use ole rather than
hyperlinking to another presentation. But if technically
they are the same thing then he can't argue with that.
Please set me straight on this matter.

I'm used to using flash and am struggling a bit to get to
grips with vba and powerpoint in general.
