Returning from RC2 to RC1

I installed RC2 as an upgrade over RC1 on a Lenovo\IBM T43 and went from
having a great experience in RC1 to a terrible experience with RC2. Sound
was fine in RC1 but is now choppy in RC2. Hard drive seems to run non-stop
in RC2 and this was never a problem in RC1. Moving to RC2 was a step
backward for me.

Hi,

Upgrades don't always work that well in betas, try a clean install.

If you thought Vista RC1 was good you should try Windows XP SP2 - I think
you'll be in for a pleasant surprise if you thought Vista was at all good.

Actually I have dual boot set-ups with XP SP2 and Vista RC1 running on both
a T43 Thinkpad and an HP TC1100 Tablet PC and performance and stability of
Vista RC1 is fine on both. I'm finding I rarely boot in to XP SP2 and that
was not the case with Vista Beta 2. While I had bad luck with Vista RC2 on
the Thinkpad it may be because of the upgrade vs clean install. Now that I
clean installed RC1 I'm back working just as reliably as I was before the
switch to RC2. Vista is the future if you intend to stick with a MS OS and
a comparison of a mature release of an operating system (XP SP2) vs a
release candidate of a new operating system seems like a stretch.

I went back to RC1 from the RC2 Upgrade and everything worked fine so I just
tried a clean install of RC2 and same problem exists as when I did the
upgrade. It appears that some change between RC1 and RC2 has broken my
sound compatibility and Windows Media Centre no longer works properly with
my TV-PVR-2. Both work fine in RC1 but are a no go in either the upgrade or
clean install of RC2.
