I am using Outlook 2000 and I am getting messages returned that i did not
send. I am also receiving a plethora of messages apparently from Microsoft
that tell me to load a security patch. I delete these. what is happening
here?

You are probably a victim of Email address spoofing, a
technique used widely by today's viruses. This does not
necessarily mean that your PC is infected, read on...

Essentially, spoofing means that the virus sends itself
out from an infected computer, searching for email
addresses cached on said computer, and using a randomnly
chosen address that it finds on such computer. So, in most
cases, the From address on infected emails received by
other people, is not really the source of the emails.
