Return Of The Slows

I'm seeing painfully slow performance in 2 office applications, Loading files into Powerpoint and Archiving folders in Outlook

I recently posted this issue here, and followed up that I had resolved the problem. However, both symptoms have returned, so they come and go together. Whatever is the root cause seems to have been fixed, and now has reoccurred. I thought the fix was the result of 2 actions

1. I installed the office SP3 update
2. I re-setup my Outlook mail accounts to remove compressible encryption

After doing this my Outlook folders archived in seconds, and my largest powerpoint files loaded in seconds. So I assumed the real fix was installing SP3

Today I installed the Plaxo contact manager (www.plaxo.com), and started immediately having problems with Outlook, various settings were changed, and my Outlook folder archiving problem returned. So, I uninstalled Plaxo, but my archiving problem persisted. Next I tried the office repair feature but no luck, the problem persists. Finally I launched powerpoint to see if by chance my file loading problem had returned, and YES it had. Whatever is corrupted affects both programs

Since I believed the fix was the installation of SP3, I attempted to run the sp3 install again, but it will not run since it auto-detects it's already installed once

Any suggestions for next steps?

Thanks

Ron

Can you restore to a checkpoint taken before your installed Plaxo? A lot of
times programs do not create a detailed enough install log to enable a clean
uninstall. You need to get your system back to the state it was in before
you installed it.

Excellent suggestion Sonia, thank you!! I don't know why I didn't think of it, but I found a good clean restore point and all is well again. Now I know the plaxo.com software is problematic, and whatever problem it creates affects more than just outlook, but also at least powerpoint

This also is a good example of why it makes sense to make sure and establish a good restore point before installing anything new on an XP system

Thanks Again!
