I have IE v6.0 (SP2). Suddenly, the Return/Enter key stopped working
when I hit
it after typing a URL in the address field. When I hit the key nothing
happens.
It used to work for years until now. This started after I
downloaded/installed latest updates for WinXP from Micorsoft website.

The same thing has been happening to me as well. Open up your task manager
and see how many versions of "verclsid.exe" there are. Whenever I would type
a URL and hit enter it would open a new instance of verclsid.exe.

If you search for verclsid on your computer you will find that it is a
legitimate Microsoft file. However, the new patch from April 11th gives you
a new verclsid.exe file (I can tell this as the patch name is in the file
description).

What I did was removed the original verclsid.exe from the system32 folder
(still in my recycle bin) and IExplorer has worked fine ever since.

Thanks, this has fixed the problem (i renamed the old verclsid.exe file 2
..old). I had found the work round but having to remeber to type http:// for
every inputted URL was a bit of a chore.

I wouldn't recommend renaming this file as it is a critical update and
I see no flaw within the patch itself. We have pushed the patch across
2000+ machines and have had a significant number come back in with this
problem. One thing the machines all have in common is that they have HP
software on there. We uninstalled the HP Share-to-web application and
it remedied the problem. I'm interested in feedback as to whether this
works for anyone else.
