Hi all and thanks in advance for any advice,

Have a pretty good system, 3.4 ghz, 3gig ram, but my video card was my
bottleneck. It was a factory installed nvidia 5200(not sure exact model
number but it sucked)

My wife opened up a gateway account for her business and wanted to
surprise me with a new video card and called the rep and asked for the
best one they had for a pc and that she wanted one that she wouldnt
have to replace for a while and could handle everything on the
market...........she meant and thought she got across to him the best
gaming card

well, he sold her her the fireglx3-256.......i said screw it and popped
it in(just got a new flat panel monitor and wanted to test it out
dvi)well, then I read here that it could have problems with the higher
end games....I went to the website and downloaded the performance
drivers and tried doom and half life and they work flawlessly but do
you guys think I should trade the card back in for the high end gaming
card? I know it would be cheaper but the money really isnt an issue if
this will suit my needs for the long term........and if I keep this
one........what is a good screen resolution to set it on using a 20
inch ultrasharp flat panel monitor?(Dell 2001FP)

Thanks

The first thing you should know is that FireGl series are not gaming
cards, you'll be able to get flawless results in some games but some
won't even function.
FireGl are top-performance designer-workstation cards that usually have
a price that's double then top-end gaming cards would cost.
I'd suggest trying to return the card because there's a high chance that
for the money you could get a Radeon X850XT or a X800XT.

See ya!

If you're not running MCAD or other prof OpenGL software, return it.
I'm running a FireGL V3100 @ work and tried playing a couple games on it.
Some games crash and get beautiful rays due to the vertex shader language.
Get a gaming card for games, and if you do both (Games and MCAD) get a
Quadro card. A high end gaming card will always outshine in terms of fps
and special visual effects. Professional cards are made to speed work up
without ever F*?$ing up or crashing.
