Retriving lost data

Earlier on whilst finsihing an essay on the computer i realised that two oF
my files had the same name.I stupidly decided to replace one file with
another thinking that the content was thE same however it wasn't and now i
have lost my essay is there any way of retriving my other file?
please help ASAP!
