In Win Explorer I might go from one folder to another folder to another
folder, etc.

The BACK arrow lets me go back to those folders one at a time.

However .... if I close Win Explorer and open it again later on, then I
can not start by using the BACK button to go back to those earlier open
folder.

Is there a way to access and use the historical folder names in the BACK
button from the previous instance of Win Explorer?

FYI, an alternative file manager called XYplorer does indeed preserve the
history between sessions. Try http://www.xyplorer.com/ .

Yes.

But XYplorer is chargeable and it is not worth paying for such a
straightforward feature as accessing folder history.

Well, your choice. Of course, when you purchase XYplorer you get one or two
other features as well... ;)
