Retrieving single value from Access DB into Outlook VBA Code by SQL

Hi

This is probably a newb question, but I have not found any references
anywhere :-(

What I would like to do is simply to retrieve one value from an Access
DB table by use of embedded SQL within an Outlook VBA procedure.

I can send data from Outlook to Access with no problems, but I haven't
seen any references to extracting data via use of SQL.

I am running Outlook 2003.

I am sure that the answer is very simple, but I just can't find it :-(
