I saved a project that I was working on in Movie Maker and now I cannot get
it to pull up. It was just using pictures--no video. When I try to pull it
up it says "checking project files" and the status bar gets to about 85% and
then the program freezes up and I have to bring up task manager to get out of
it. I also tried making a new project and the program froze up at one point
and I lost what I had done. When it tried to do crash recovery the program
froze again and I really lost the project--for good. I just need to know
what I can do to fix whatever it is that is causing the program to not
function properly. I am simply trying to create a picture slideshow with
music to download onto a DVD.

When I import pictures that I took vertically with a camera the picture shows
up sideways. When I rotate the picture in Movie Maker the picture stretches.
How can I import vertical pictures without them getting distorted in Movie
Maker?

Try using your image editing software to rotate
the images before importing into Movie Maker.
You might even want to crop them so they appear
in Landscape orientation instead of Portrait....
(eliminating the black borders)

Maybe the following article will offer some ideas:

Prepping Still Pix for Import

The following free software might be useful and
has a great crop tool:
